Empowering Youth through Apprenticeship: Insights from the International Breweries Hero Apprentice Training Program
The Hero Apprentice Training Program, sponsored by International Breweries, has concluded, empowering its graduates. Organized by Nnamdi Azikiwe University in collaboration with Onitsha Business School (OBS), the program successfully provided certificates and starting capital to its graduating students.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Faculty of Management Sciences, CBN Banking Hall, Unizik Awka, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, the Commissioner for Youth Development, highlighted Anambra state's leading position in apprenticeship scheme development nationwide. He emphasized the state government's commitment to reducing youth unemployment through initiatives like the 1 Youth 2 Skills Solution, endorsed by the federal government.
Acknowledging International Breweries' support, Mr. Commissioner Patrick Agha Mba commended their contribution to tackling social and economic challenges through apprenticeship programs.
Encouraging the graduates to apply their newfound skills practically, he emphasized the importance of merging learning with earning.
The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, represented by Prof. Ikeh Odumegwu, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration between the university and the state government, noting its positive impact on youth empowerment.
He applauded International Breweries PLC for providing start-up capital to the graduates, furthering their entrepreneurial endeavors.
Prof. Olusegun Sogbesan, Director General of Onitsha Business School, praised Unizik and Hero for their efforts in nurturing and sponsoring the beneficiaries, fostering their journey towards successful entrepreneurship.

The President of Ogbaru main market, known as Relief Market Onitsha, lauded the project's significance, being the first of its kind in Nigeria. He extended gratitude to the commissioners, the Anambra state government, and other dignitaries for their support.
Beneficiaries Mr. Sunday Maduka and Nkechi Okonkwo expressed their appreciation to Hero International Breweries PLC, Unizik, and OBS for the success of the program.
